0:00 We get confused because we feel like we're trying to get rid of those butterflies. It's not about getting rid of the butterflies. It's about figuring out how you can take action and embrace that fear, to get your butterflies to fly in formation. So how do you get more comfortable with that feeling day by day?
0:17 I can show everybody in here better than I could tell you how your body can control your mind and not the opposite. Everybody, you better do it. Even in the back. Everyone, put a big smile on your face. Smile. With that smile, I want you to look up at the ceiling. Look up. Big smile, looking up, try your hardest to get as sad as possible with a smile. Stop laughing, get sad.
0:58 [Darryl leads the room in singing a song together.] So I gotta admit, that was like a level six out of 10 from what I'm used to. When I came out, y'all were hype. Y'all had already set the level high. So I think it's not because you don't have the energy. It's probably because you didn't know the words. Switch screen for me, please. All right, sopranos, altos, tenors, basses. Here we go. [The room sings again, louder.] Give it up for yourselves.
2:28 So it's important when you feel that fear. The five-second rule is important to embrace. Pay attention to what your body's doing. Take those deep breaths. It's so helpful in our journey.
2:37 So after we trace, y'all, after embrace comes the most important one, the one that I feel we often struggle with the most in the journey: giving ourselves just a little bit more grace. Grace is kindness and forgiveness for yourself and others. We put ourselves in the arena daily, right? Year after year there are struggles, and sometimes you're like, did I make the right decision? Did I do that thing? And you're sometimes in your head about making that next decision because of that past decision.
3:14 Here's a fear that I got from someone: "Imposter syndrome. Growing into a bigger leadership role and thinking, who am I, still thinking of the mistakes I made and why I shouldn't be in this role." We're all thinking about that past decision that we made.
3:27 So there's this line that I say to myself that has helped me and so many others around the country. This next slide is one you can take a picture of. When I'm doubting myself, when I'm about to make that decision and I have that regret, what I'll say is: I made the best decision with the information and who I was at the time. It's a daily reminder that through our journey, we're not always going to make the right decision. We're going to make the best decision that we know, and hopefully with that knowledge, we'll make better decisions in the future.
You will hear back within hours on business days.
