Trace is the first step in Darryl's process for fearing less. It means getting a fear out of your head, by writing it down or saying it out loud, so you have something to look back on.

Darryl explains why this matters with all the thoughts we have each day, and he shows how he traced his own fear when he decided to leave the agency that booked him.

0:00 But what happens is, if you don't write those things down, you can't do something with those feelings, the thousands of thoughts that show up in our heads on a daily basis. Those thoughts go through, and then the next time you feel that fear, that nervousness, you don't have anything to go back to and see that you survived in some way.

0:18 So the first piece of advice, the first thing in this process, comes down to this: trace. Which is all about writing down your fears. It's not just about writing it down. It's about writing it out, verbally or with audio in some way. Getting it out of your head in whatever way that looks like.

0:35 I told you all that I decided to leave that agency that was supporting me. So I'm going to put that on the screen. As soon as I felt that feeling of nervousness when I was thinking of leaving, I took out my phone and started tracing.
